Types of Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is a cancer that often results in a tumor in the main organs of the body. This disease is now the recent talk of the medical world, especially in the dungeon of cancer. In reality, mesothelioma is a sac, in a definite human cell structure, which protects organs like lungs and heart. Mesothelioma is caused due to the improper cell alignment in the body. The main source of this disease is asbestos exposure. Based on this exposure, the disease has been classified into three different types – Pleural Mesothelioma, Peritoneal Mesothelioma and Pericardial Mesothelioma. They have a strong impact on human body.
Pleural Mesothelioma is the most common form of Mesothelioma. It is caused by exposure to asbestos fibers, which cause the human cells to become maligned. The first noticeable sign of a Pleural Mesothelioma is a mild tumor, which it is not easily detectable. This cancer generally hits the central part of the body, mainly the lungs. People often fail to realize that they have been affected by Pleural Mesothelioma.
Pleural Mesothelioma has some specific symptoms which can be found in a number of commonly spread diseases. Some common symptoms which may help you in recognizing the Pleural Mesothelioma are swelling of face, drastic weight loss, moderate to high fever, incessant coughing, blood vomiting, breathing problem, chest pain and severe weakness.
Peritoneal Mesothelioma is the second type of Mesothelioma which attacks the fluid content of abdomen, responsible for smooth functioning of the abdominal organs. This cancer, at the first attempt, attacks the stomach, which results in tumors in the abdominal area, and then spreads across the whole body. This is not a common Mesothelioma but still a dreadful one. Around 10% of Mesothelioma is Peritoneal Mesothelioma.
The symptoms of Peritoneal Mesothelioma are abdominal pain with severe swelling, nausea, loss of weight, appetite loss, severe weakness and sometimes headache. The location of tumor or the definite impact of Peritoneal Mesothelioma can cause breathing problem also.
Pericardial Mesothelioma is third type of Mesothelioma. Pericardial Mesothelioma is the rarest form of Mesothelioma. It is a cancer that directly hits the heart or attacks the cavity the heart lies in. Pericardial Mesothelioma is simply known as heart cancer, although it is only one of the types of heart cancer. Only long-term exposure to asbestos can cause the disease of Pericardial Mesothelioma. The symptoms are continuous coughing, breathing problem, palpitations, chest pains and severe weakness.
